First Visit
Whether you have chosen Pediatric Dentistry of Lewisburg as your child's dental home, or perhaps you've been referred here by your family dentist for specialized care, every "first visit" has been designed with your child's individual needs in mind. We intend to make the first experience in our office a positive one for you and your child. A fun first visit can set the tone for future appointments!
- To obtain the new patient paperwork in advance, click here.
- Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your child's appointment. This will allow you time to complete any unfinished paperwork as well as time for your child to settle in and play with the toys, enjoy a game on our Kindle, watch tv, or see what's new in our fish tank.
- A member of our team will accompany you and your child to a private consultation room to review your child's medical history as well as address any dental concerns you may have.
- If your child is three years of age or older, please attempt to separate from your child and relax in our reception area while our staff accompanies your child through his/her visit. If at any time your child becomes sad, we will ask you to join your child in order to continue with the appointment. Please read more about our separation policy under the Office Policies tab.
- Your child's first visit is not only designed to introduce you and your child to our team, but also to conduct a comprehensive exam of your child's oral and facial development. This process will include digital dental x-rays, a cleaning by our dental hygienist, and an exam with treatment planning by one of our doctors. For those patients who were recently seen by their family dentist and were referred to us for care, we will courtesy our fees for the cleaning and any x-rays that your child has had within the last six months!
- Perhaps one of the most significant decisions that we will make during your child's first visit is to determine how to make dental treatment comfortable should your child require additional care such as fillings, crowns, extractions, or surgery. Our office is equipped to help your child at any level with adjuncts such as nitrous oxide, conscious sedation, or even in-office general anesthesia with the Pediatric Dental Anesthesiologist. Your child's ability to complete such tasks as parental separation, tooth brushing, and taking x-rays will help to determine which adjunct best suits your child. Parents will be given the opportunity to discuss the treatment plan with our doctors and staff at the completion of the first visit, as well as answer any questions you may have.
- If your child has cavities, we will discuss a treatment plan with you which includes how we can safely fill cavities without mental and/or physical harm. This is the best part about bringing your child to a pediatric dentist! Together, the doctor and the parents can determine if nitrous oxide, conscious sedation, or general anesthesia should be utilized to help your child to become healthy again.
- Lastly, a parent leaving a new patient visit will most likely be confused. DO NOT BE ASHAMED ABOUT HAVING DIFFICULTY UNDERSTANDING DENTAL TREATMENT. Please call us right away when you have questions, or better yet, please come back in and see us so we can personally discuss your concerns.
